Most books focus on tensions before or during the Revolutionary war, rarely right after, so I was intrigued to see how Tabitha and Dominick's relationship would pan out. Everything flowed well, for the most part, although it could be a bit slow at times. I really enjoyed Eakes's writing and thought that her story was interesting. I also have a kind of OCD thing about reading books from series out of order, even if they can be read as stand-alone books. Lady in the Mist is the first in the Midwives series by Laurie Alice Eakes and since I will be reading the second book in the series (Heart's Safe Passage) for a tour this month, I wanted to get a feel for Eakes's writing before hand. She decides to follow him to find out just what he's up to, but little does she know that Dominick is hiding a secret that may not be quite what she expects. With British war ships abducting American men to serve in their war with France, Tabitha suspects that Dominick might be aiding the British with finding able bodied men to take.

Since the Revolutionary War, tensions between Americans and the British on their shores have been high and Tabitha finds it difficult to understand why Dominick would be on the shore unless he is up to no good. That man is indentured servant Dominick Cherrett, who also happens to be British. Walking along the beach, lost in thought, she stumbles upon a man hidden in the mist. After attending a woman who suffered a fall and then died during birth, Tabitha returns home feeling defeated. As the town's only midwife and healer, Tabitha Eckles hears and sees a lot of things that people might not want her to know.
