I skimmed more lightly through chapters 3-6 and from what I was catching, everything in the first half of the book sounded almost verbatim what I learned in my intro to psych class. It was like a weird combination of bloated language that could have been condensed easily and intermediate psych concepts that densely packed the chapter at points (would recommend you have done at least intro to psych in college) it came off as pretentious to me because of how the reviews spoke of it. I read on to the second chapter (I didn't read it incredibly thoroughly, sort of skimming) and I thought the same of the second chapter. I was thoroughly disappointed /: the introduction indicated that it was thoroughly researched and very academically rigorous (which it was pretty dense with intermediate psych terms/concepts, and it was sort-of erudite with its citations) but the entire first chapter seemed incredibly bloated like it could have been condensed to a page or two. Obviously, I thought I had possibly found an amazing book!įast forward a few months later, I finally find the time to read a preview (I read the first 20 pages or so of the introduction) then I went to the book store down the street to sit down with the book in the cafe and give it a chance. The reviews heavily praised the book and many laymen readers praised the book for its insight and academics were also showering the book with praise, saying its a must read as well. That was actually my first time meeting him so I wasn't going to scrutinize his opinion or anything like that, I just took his recommendation sincerely and on lunch I got to googling reviews and details about the book. He recommended to me this book, 'Thinking, Fast and Slow' by Daniel Kahneman and at first he said it might interest me, but when I asked him if he could tell me a bit more about it and what he liked about it, he swore it was an amazing book that could change peoples lives and it changed his life and he said he loved it and that it's a must-read. I was at a construction job last year for a few months and I met this co-worker who was like a manager but he would also help out on the job (really cool dude, really nice and intelligent) we were talking and I told him I was into reading about Behavioral Science/Neuroscience and things along those lines.
